Happy September!! To celebrate the new season approaching, I made paleo pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. Fall is my favorite season, and fall desserts simply cannot be beat! These cookies are dairy free, gluten free, and refined sugar free. They are also quick, easy, and delicious! I used a recipe by Erin Lives Whole, check it out here. Enjoy!
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
This verse has always been and will always be one of my favorites. Philippians 4:6 is a part of my testimony. A few years ago, I was sitting in art class the morning after a long night in the emergency room for a severe asthma attack. I sat there, exhausted and anxious, waiting for the next asthma attack to arrive, yet hoping it would never come. While dwelling in immense anxiety and physical pain, my teacher walked up to my desk with a piece of paper that had “Philippians 4:6-7” written on it.
I attended a public high school. Religion was NEVER discussed at school, so this act was out of the ordinary and quite taboo. He simply gave me the paper, told me to look the verse up, and said, “I think this could really help you right now.”
He had no idea what was going on in my life, but someone else did. God knew exactly what I was walking through, and He knew exactly what I needed. God worked through this man to open my eyes to His truth. This art teacher was the first person in my life, besides my pastor, to encourage me to read scripture. This opened my eyes to the true goodness of God after many years of attending church without fully understanding why.
After studying God’s word for a few years, I have grown to love this verse more and more. I am extremely fond of all books written by Paul, especially Philippians. Believe it or not, Paul wrote the book of Philippians, which is filled with encouragement and faithfulness, while in prison. Despite enduring immense persecution and hardships, he encouraged the church in Philippi to remain faithful to God. Philippians 4:6 is a verse that is so important to live out, especially during this time.
We currently live in a world of overwhelming anxiety and stress due to the numerous unknowns and tragedies. God calls us to lay all of our worries down at His feet. He calls us to not dwell in our anxieties because He is in control. He will calm the storms that surround you (Mark 4:35-41). He is a good good God, and He will bring you each out of your hurt. He brought me out of mine, and He never fails to carry me through every valley.
Philippians 4:6 calls us to talk to God and present our needs to Him. He is a God that provides (Mark 6:40-44). He already knows what you need before you even speak a word in prayer (Matthew 6:8), but He LOVES when you come to Him. Cast your worries onto Him (1 Peter 5:7).
I encourage you all to find things to be thankful for during this season. God’s blessings are abundant in the valleys and on the mountaintops. Put your worries to rest. You have a mighty Father who has a perfect plan for your life.
